The foundation of our Congregation was found by young Tamil Woman Maria Soosai Nathathiram in Tiruchy, Tamilnadu. She was the sixth child from the family of piety who lived in the parish of Dharmalingapuram , Tiruchy which was dedicated to our Lady of Seven Dolours.

They tried to dissuade her saying that in the Society of that time, a woman remaining unmarried was an anomaly and could not even be thought of. In this state of affairs, she began to share with her friends about her desire and the kind of life she wanted to live. A few among them were drawn towards the life of total dedication in God. God touched the heart of their parents and finally they gave them a long awaited permission to live religious life.

After getting their parents’ permission, the six young women were overjoyed and went to Fr. Peter Meccati. They expressed im in detail of their desire to live religious life and the difficulties they had met with. Fr. Meccatti who in turn communicated it to Mgr. Alexis Canoz. But the foundation of the congregation was getting delayed indefinitely. Around 6 January 1854 one of the six young girls named Muthamma died . So the strength of the group was reduced into five.

Finally in the year 1854, Mgr. Canoz placed the small group of women under the care of Fr. Mecatti and accepted this small group of five young women as a religious congregation on 8 December 1854.
